πŸ‘‹ Hey there,

Great to see you. Whether you're new here or a returning friend - grab your mug and let's dive into this week's topics. β˜•οΈ

πŸ”Ž Single Bean Spotlight - Player Reroll

Remember the hardcore tweaks of Better With Mods (the 1.12 iteration of the ancient BetterThanWolves mod), which yeeted you thousands of blocks away from your old spawn point? That "death means starting over" thrill was iconic, but setting it up manually was a pain. Want a more proper, configurable implementation for your modpack? Then Player Reroll by Dark_Arcana with help from ACGaming may be the mod you're looking for.

mod logo

This mod is designed to completely reset a player - wiping inventory, achievements, and even teleporting them far away to simulate a fresh world without needing to generate new terrain or delete save files. It's perfect for hardcore-style modpacks that want to keep the world intact while forcing players to face the void anew. The default setup sends you 512 blocks away in a spiral pattern, ensuring every reroll lands you in a unique spot so you never accidentally loop back to your old base.

But the real spice is in the configurability. You can force a reroll on death, lock players out of accidental resets, or even give them a "Grave" system to bury their loot in chests for a future retrieval attempt. Need to keep your Ender Chest safe across resets? Toggle it. Want to send your whole server to a new dimension together? The /reroll command handles it. It even includes a physical "dice" item you can hold to trigger your own reset, complete with a cooldown timer to prevent rage-quitting into a new life too quickly.

Less world management, more survival chaos.

Tl;dr: Hardcore mode made easy. Reset players, wipe inventories, and teleport them to new horizons without touching the world save. Configurable, server-friendly, and perfect for those "start over" challenges.

πŸ“ Barista's Special - Three Months, Twelve Cups

Alright here it is the first issue of the second cup β˜•οΈ and my new role as one of @leaflet.pub new Atmospheric Field Reporter. πŸ” @strubium.bsky.social I hope you have your dm’s open. I’ll get to you soon for the next issue. πŸ‘€

We're closing in on the 3-month period this Atmosphere Field Reporter project was set to run on. Looking back at where we started - I honestly didn't expect to make it all the way to Issue 12. Most of the original participants dropped out during this period, but I somehow managed to complete 12 consecutive weeks of a blog post.

Announcing a great slate of *Field Reporters* β€” publications on community activity from art to movies, soccer analytics to Black media, local & regional scenes & more! Excited to see how these can not only capture interesting Atmospheric activity, but help catalyze it. Check em out & subscribe!

Long nights spent polishing, finalizing layouts, adding all the references and images, paired with my horrible time management skills - and I still made it. Some weeks were rougher than others. There was that weekend where my life decided to flip the table and I ended up in the ED thinking I had a stroke. Turns out it was just a dysfunctional ear and an ENT nightmare, but yeah - that didn't help with the weekly deadline pressure.

And why this is a bad start for a blog.

Now here's the thing about consistency: it costs time I can't spend on mod dev work. And that's the real tradeoff. Writing one each week is exhausting, especially when you want to interview creators properly, verify information, and not embarrass yourself with factual errors.

The community deserves better than rushed content.

Let's see if Leaflet keeps its word and upgrades my account to a lifetime premium user afterwards - because that was the promise. Otherwise I no longer can maintain the mail newsletter and you can only read them on my website in the future.

Starting around November, I'll try a different release cycle - bi-weekly instead of weekly. This gives the community more time to create awesome stuff to feature, makes it easier to find guests for interviews, and honestly... it gives me time to breathe. Coffee break should stay a coffee break, not become a marathon espresso shot.

Thanks to everyone who's been reading, suggesting mods, and sticking around through the chaos. Here's to Issue #13 - next week.

πŸ’¬ Counter Talk

came through

Alright, that "Just Enough Opinions Podcast" appearance I mentioned last issue? It's live. The VOD is currently up on Twitch and YouTube, with a properly edited version expected to drop in the next few days.

We talked 1.12 modding, Coalition stuff, and my unfiltered takes on the state of legacy modding. Spoiler: not everything was polite.

For those who missed the original tease in Issue 11 - yes, I survived. Barely. But the coffee stayed warm. I also sneaked in a few interview questions, you can read up on in an upcoming issue.

PackCompanion Gets the Boot

Unfortunately, PackCompanion has been removed from CurseForge indefinitely. The mod was a popular tool for creating modpack templates, but increased hostility from bad actors and pressure around the new AI masterlist feature led to its banishment.

CurseForge moderation stated the project "wouldn't be eligible for approval" after the team added their AI masterlist to call attention to low-quality AI-assisted mods - which CF deemed unfair as it could "negatively affect other projects." Regardless, the developers will continue updates via GitHub. You can download the JAR files from their GitHub.

Where Things Go Next

As mentioned above, the newsletter will shift to bi-weekly releases next month. The Field Reporter program officially ends here, but the Second Cup continues - just at a slower brew temperature.

For those who want to stay connected between issues:

  • Join the 1.12 Coalition Discord for daily chatter

  • Follow on the atmosphere

  • Hit me up via DM if you have mod suggestions that deserve the spotlight or want to talk about your projects with me
